The Film 'Together' Is Now Streaming, and It Has the Power to Test Your Partnership.

We present a dare for long-term couples who appreciate scary movies: Get comfortable with your significant other and view Together. This critically acclaimed 2025 movie just made its online premiere on the Hulu service. On the surface, it might appear like conventional biological terror, but beneath Together exists a profound meditation about the ways we decide to love one another.

A Directorial Debut Delving into The Nuances of Love

Together marks the debut feature-length film for director Michael Shanks. It stars actors Alison Brie and Dave Franco as Tim and Millie, an unmarried couple that have been together for ten years. Married in real life in 2017, the actors contribute a special spark to their portrayals, masterfully depicting both the good and bad of a enduring union.

The narrative starts when Tim and Millie relocate from the big city to the rural area for Millie’s job. A somewhat stereotypical narrative setup, admittedly, but that’s largely where the tropes cease. Together transforms into as much a examination of mental states of the couple's dynamic as it is a movie featuring biological frights.

An Otherworldly Trigger

While trekking near their new home, a storm hits, and the two tumble into an underground cave. After a night spent there and finally finding a way out, a supernatural entity starts to affect the duo. This force induces a paranormal intimacy between them that goes far beyond simple connection.

The complete narrative is a methodically building horror experience, blending moments of hallucinatory nightmares, disturbing (but tastefully done) physical transformations, and surprisingly comedic exchanges (sometimes amidst something grotesque). Shanks orchestrates these parts expertly and wraps them up in a slowly mounting atmosphere of fear.

Nuanced Portrayals

A great deal of Together is exclusively the performances of its stars, and they deftly portray manifold depths to the dynamic between Tim and Millie. Her self-assurance and sense of connection is suffering due to a distance. Her underlying frustration of Tim for his unwillingness to pursue anything but his floundering music career gradually emerges.

Tim, on the other hand feels trapped and cut off by Millie, who’s the reason they’ve moved to the country and far away from his social circle. He is terrified of the concept of completely losing his individual identity in Millie. This fear is further exacerbated by the reality he does not operate a vehicle and relies on Millie for transportation.

The film's most intelligent aspect in this movie avoids making one partner or the other the obvious villain.

Both characters grapple with the sort of issues that come with most partnerships after ten years. At their core, they continue to care for one another. They find humor with each other, comfort one another, and share intimately at times. But under the surface, there’s an unavoidable current of uncertainty about their relationship.

Thematic Depth

While the supernatural forces in Together act as a metaphor for these fears of excessive reliance and giving oneself over to a partner, the symbolism does not come across as hamfisted or pretentious. Instead, these more disturbing, unsettling scenes present a ideal counterpart to the relationship narrative. Both the supernatural and the personal serve the other symbiotically.

A Debated Finale

Together’s conclusion, which won’t be spoiled here, has sparked debate on the story's concluding statement about unhealthy partnerships. Reports indicate that unattached audience members have understood the narrative as a powerful case for staying single. Meanwhile, certain partners experiencing tension found that the film actually helped them resolve their issues.

If you are alone or with a partner, your own response could potentially serve as a great barometer of how you view relationships. Will the conclusion sow anxiety and horror, or a uplifting feeling of optimism? Will you recognize your own traits in either protagonist and yell at the screen, or simply look at your significant other and utter, “I’d do that for you”?

No matter your reaction, Together is an exploration you can experience today.

Together is available to watch on Hulu's platform now.
